On the Market - 200 Soscal Creek Road, A Napa Beauty

4:44 PM PST - 3/17/2009
by: Greg Lucas

Although it’s just five minutes from downtown Napa, 200 Soscol Creek Road has a distinctive country feel. The winding entryway through vine-covered knolls merely hints at the five acres of the estate’s nearly 11, which are planted with pinot noir and chardonnay. Beyond that, the vines roll across lush Napa Valley hills.

Over the past several years, owners Paul and Jillian Ryan tore the 3,795-square-foot main house down to the studs converting its interior into an airy, entertainment-friendly space. They added flooring that is primarily hand-laid cherry wood.

The centerpiece of the home is a great room dominated by the cream-colored, château-inspired kitchen with English range, two dishwashers, built-in Sub Zero refrigerator and copper sinks. Behind frosted glass doors is a roomy pantry with storage cabinets, a built-in coffee maker and microwave oven.

It’s difficult to concentrate on cooking, though. The view from the large marble island rimmed by bar stools takes in the 6,000 square foot back patio - with its built-in barbeque, pizza oven and fireplace – and the pool and vineyards beyond. Same goes for the view from the formal dining room.

There are two master suites in the four-bedroom main house and three-and-one-half marble-floored baths, one of which has a custom steam shower. A state-of-the-art laundry features a built in Jacuzzi sink for hand washables.

The newly completed pool house has marble floors throughout its bedroom, bath, great room and kitchen, which has stainless steel appliances and custom-made walnut cabinets. Also on the property are two apartments, a barn and stables. Zoning allows two additional structures, a 1,000-square-foot cottage and a 1,200-square-foot guest house and the plans are available.

As if more icing on the cake were needed, there’s a site for a winery. Nearly 11 acres are double planted with pinot and chardonnay for twice the yield. There is another two acres that can be double planted as well. This would be equivalent to the production of a 14-acre vineyard if fully planted out. Country retreat or winery . . . This property is filled with possibilities.
