For designer Suzan Fellman, the inspiration for one of her most popular pieces evolved from work on other client projects. “The collection was based on the needs of my clients when designing their glamorous closets,” she shares. Drawing from her own passion and extensive collection of vintage scarves, a beautiful new chair was soon born.
The armless, slipper style chair is covered in vintage scarves of the designer’s own choosing. Some of the famous brands that have graced the sleek silhouette include Givenchy, Dior and Chanel. Fellman notes that the greatest challenge is finding the perfect, three couture scarves needed to cover the chair in an aesthetically pleasing manner. “I have each scarf backed so as to have the capability of upholstery,” she notes. “Nothing feels as good as silk. It’s the closest make-up to skin.”
Each chair also features lucite legs, tapered to give the chair a “graceful” look. Making each piece as much a work of art as work of function, Suzan also signs one of back legs.
